DRUMZ HAND DRUMMING CLASS SCHEDULE FOR DECEMBER!
There will be a shorter Three Week Class Session in December due to the Holidays!

Please join us for the final session of 2008 beginning December 3rd at DRUMZ
COST:$50 for three weeks.


BEGINNER CLASS- Wednesday evening from 8-9pm the Discovering the Magic of Hand Drumming class begins at DRUMZ. This class will cover the fundamentals of hand drumming, some rhythm rudiments, hand technique and exercises to develop technique, a traditionalWest African rhythm and song, drum circle ettiquette,and an opportunity to explore musical improvisation at the closing of each class with a closing rhythm. No previous musical experience is necessary. If you have a heartbeat, you have rhythm! We are all rhythmic creatures born into a rhythmic universe and we have an innate need to explore and share this connection to rhythm! Come learn a new language with which to express yourself and share your gifts, develop your listening skills , wake up your creative spirit, relax, re-charge and release your blocks and inhibitions! You will learn to connect ( to yourselves, to others, to your world) in a deeper more open way while learning to drum in a circle with a supportive, experienced, passionate drum teacher and a bunch of new friends!


BEYOND BEGINNER class meets Wednesday evenings from 6:45pm-7:45pm beginning Dec. 3rd. This clas is for those students who have completed at least one beginner session or have had comparable experience in another situation. Class moves mopre quickly, and studies more complex rhythms and exercises and begins work on improvisation and soloing techniques.


THURSDAY MORNING WOMEN'S CLASS, "REMEMBERING RHYTHM"- Meets from 10:30-11:30am every Thursday mornings! ALl level class but we do not cover basics so you must have had drumming instruction and understand the djembe technique and learning African rhythm patterns! We have lots of fun in here!


THURSDAY EVENING INTERMEDIATE CLASS, "Serious Drummin'" takes place on Thursday evenings from 7:30pm-8:30pm. If you have not already taken this class please call Sherry to get instructor's approval to join this class. Experienced drummers are welcome.

SATURDAY MORNING CLASSES WILL NOT MEET DURING DECEMBER AS THE STORE WILL BE OPEN ON SATURDAYS FROM 10am-6pm for the holidays!

Unfortunately, In our culture, listening to the guidance available to us through our own inner rhythms and the natural rhythms and cycles of our Universe has not necessarily been something that has been nurtured and supported, to the detriment of all things, it appears! Along the path towards "ciivilization" and "technological advancement" ,we have lost our deep connection to our own souls, each other, and our Earth! These classes are designed to help us re-connect to our own inner drum the heart, WAKE UP our rhythmic sensibilities and begin to relate to our world and each other from a deeper and broader perspective. Rhythm never abandons us and remembering that part of our selves that is in sync, and in time , and in harmony with the Source, the ALL, Spirit, Oneness, whatever one chooses to call divinity, is what this "drum thing" at DRUMZ is all about! DRUMZ HAND DRUMMING SCHEDULE FOR 2008!

Classes begin Jaanuary 16th at Drumz for the first six week sessions of the new year! All are welcome! Our next six week session will begin February 27th. The following classes are happening now at Drumz!

Beginning Feb. 5th we will have a new All Women's Performance class starting at DRUMZ. This is a class for those students who have progressed in their playing to a beyond beginnner/intermediate level and would like to push their edge and include performance. We will be performing with the Djembabes and other Bands at the Demb abe Benefit Concert the first week in May 2008. This class meets at Drumz from 7-9pm for two hours classes and the commitment is for 10 weeks plus rehearsals with the other bands the last couple of weeks in April! Drumz Fall Class Schedule 2007
BEGINNER’S CLASS, “Discovering the Magic” begins Wednesday September 5th from 7pm-8pm. This is the class for those starting out on the drummer’s path as well as those who are novices and still discovering the magic of the drum. We will cover the fundamentals, rudiments, hand technique and exercises to develop the technique, the language of the drum, how to select a drum, drum tuning, drum circle ettiquette- THE BASICS! As well as learning a West African rhythm and all the parts of the ensemble AND a chance to improvise and MAKE MUSIC WITH A COMMUNITY OF LIKE-MINDED FOLKS! Drums are provided for this class for students who do not yet have their own. Cost: $75 for six weeks.

BEYOND BEGINNER’S Class,”Moving With the Magic”, begins September 6th from 6:45pm-7:45pm. This is for those students already familiar with the basics of hand drumming and the language of the drum who are ready to move on to the next level. This class will move at a faster tempo and cover rhythms with more complex patterns, and involve more of the djundun and bell combinatin parts. Once one is relaxed, confident, and completely at ease with the material in the beginner level class it is time to move to the beyond beginners and continue to move to your edge! Relaxation is such a key part to learning to drum, it is very important to always select a class level that allow you to move at a relaxed pace. We are drumming to relieve stress, not competing with ourselves or others to create stress! We can honor the instrument and the traditions of these amazing instruments by moving to the next level only when truly ready! One must have their own drum for this level of classes as practice will begin to be more and more important! Class session is six weeks and cost is $75 per session ( or $15 per class drop in ).


INTERMEDIATE CLASS, “ Serious drumming magic”, begins September 6th, 8pm-9pm. This class will
Be for those folks who are further down the drummer’s path than simply beyond beginner. The basics are no longer covered, though we continue to learn new exercises to develop and improve hand technique, timing, dynamics, etc. This class moves at a much faster clip and involves longer and more complex rhythm patterns and more difficult and advanced djundun/bell combination study, and more improv.
Students with a good amount of previous djembe instruction only for this class. Cost $75 per session or $15 per individual class. Six week session begins September 6th.

THURSDAY MORNING WOMEN”S CLASS Remembering the magic”, begins September 6th, 10:30am-11:30am. This class will continue to be an “all level” class for women , though a beginner’s session is highly recommended first or at least a beginner’s workshop. We do work on technique and fundamentals through exercises, but our emphasis is not on fundamentals as this class has been an on-going class for sometime. The participants change from time to time and many weave in and out of this class often so new women are always warmly welcomed and invited. This class rocks so one must have their own drum for this class! Next session begins Sept. 6th from 10:30-11:30am.Cost:$75 per session
